About the Salon of Art

The St. George Salon of Art, LLC has been in business since 1998 with web presence added in 2001. The artwork and photography shown on our sites are copyright protected by the artist and The St. George Salon of Art, LLC.  Doreen sold her artwork through galleries and art shows prior to becoming a gallery owner in 1998 where the St. George Salon of Art was established with a physical presence in California’s Gold Country in the Sierra Foothills.  After the sudden loss of her friend, mentor and business partner; and new ownership of the building her gallery was in, Doreen closed the physical gallery.  In 2009, she pushed the Salon of Art in the direction of a full-time successful web-based business.

The artist has well over 10,000 images and over 30-years experience in creating and selling art.  The artist’s biography is available online, along with examples of her exhibit history and award listing.

About the Artist

Doreen sold her artwork through galleries and art shows for ten years, owning her own gallery and hosting art events for six of those years.   In 2006, the artist took a hiatus from the hustle of gallery showings and simply enjoyed the creative mediums she works in, further building her portfolio and as she loves to do, experimenting in new ways to be creative.

In 2010 it was time for a new adventure.  After attending an Art Licensing Course, she began actively pursuing licensing for her work in a large variety of product markets and this focus continues today.  Doreen has a background in Project Management (in her previous Aerospace life) so she is well aware of the importance of meeting commitments, being flexible, and networking.  She enjoys working with licensing companies and manufactures to develop new products.

The artist has received over fifty awards for her art and photography, including being the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Art and Science of Photography. The artist has collectors in all 50 states in the U.S. and Worldwide.  She currently lives in the Sierra Foothills of California with her husband and adopted family of furry ‘kids’.

“I call myself a Photographic Artist because at the heart of every piece is photography. I am trained in the photographic field and classified as a Master Photographer, who has worked freelance for more than 30-years. My mind and heart however, love to experiment with new mediums, styles and methods which often take me to places that are no longer linked to photography, such as my series; The World According to Ossa. My love of color and light is quite visible in all of my work. I tend to be drawn to the dramatic, though my subjects are most often rendered in realism.”

The artist left the hustle of gallery showings and ownership in 2006 to focus on her creative mediums and pursue art licensing.  In 2009, she pushed the Salon of Art in the direction of a full-time successful web-based business.

Artist Interview -  Local Newspaper (excerpts)

Reporter:  "What three things in your career as a business woman made the biggest impression on how you do business today?"

Doreen:  "Wow, what a great question.  First would have to be my time in Aerospace.  Prior to relocating to the Sierra Foothills I spent nearly 15-years working for Ford Aerospace (Space Systems/Loral ).  My last two years I had the honor of being chosen as the representative for Manufacturing, Assembly/Test, Planning and Scheduling on a task force Process Re-Engineering project to overhaul how we as a company did business.  Being the chosen voice for over 1500 of my fellow employees taught me Team Building, Brainstorming and really helped me develop my problem solving skills."

"The second thing would have to be after I relocated to the Sierra Foothills, I 'fell into' a full-time volunteer position at our local wildlife rehabilitation clinic. My responsibilities were Public Relations and Ways & Means (fund raising).  I spent six years in this volunteer capacity and played a key role in bringing a small financially unstable organization to one that not only received the necessary funds to help the thousands of critters rescued each year, but the funding and donations to build a fully equipped medical clinic.  From this experience I learned not to be afraid to step into unfamiliar territory just because I didn't know 'how' to do something."

"The third would be my experience as a gallery owner.  Again, I 'fell into' this opportunity with my mentor at the time who became my business partner. We were asked to open a gallery in a historic old hotel that was under new management and being refurbished in a small old Gold Country town. Neither of us had any experience in running or owning a gallery, yet we were successful. My partner passed away suddenly two-years into this project and I was left to run the gallery on my own. I managed to create an annual Garden Art Show which brought in over 2500 people to this town of 70, and had artists from all over the west coast contacting me a year in advance to be considered for one of the 25 spots at this show. From this experience I learned the value of branding, how to build a small business and a tremendous amount about marketability in the art world."

Reporter:  "What three achievements in your career as a business woman are you most proud of?"

Doreen: “First, I'd have to say going back to school in my thirties to study photography and start a new career. It took a tremendous amount of courage and to my surprise I held a 4.0 grade average for all four-years. Next would be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Art and Science of Photography, and then most recently would be my successful transition from selling my work in galleries and art shows to selling my work solely online; and being able to make a very nice living as a photographer and designer, in addition to being able to share my knowledge with others.”
